FALSE. A Facebook post claims that Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla has declared a 24-hour curfew in Cavite from May 1 to 15, 2025, banning activities like videoke and street basketball.
FACT. Remulla has denied issuing an order, stating he is no longer Cavite’s governor and has no authority to implement a provincial curfew. Outgoing Cavite Governor Athena Tolentino has also made no such announcement.
The post reused a graphic from the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown period, misleading the public by presenting it as a current curfew advisory.
In a May 7 statement to Rappler, Remulla clarified: “No. 1. I’m no longer Governor. No. 2. Even as Secretary… I cannot do that. No. 3. Even if I could, I wouldn’t.”
The claim is baseless and appears intended to sow confusion ahead of the May 12 elections by spreading recycled misinformation under the guise of official announcements.
