FACT CHECK: Claim of June 16 class suspension due to mpox is FAKE

FALSE: A Facebook page falsely claimed that classes would be suspended on June 16, 2025 due to monkeypox (MPOX) virus.

FACT: The Department of Education has not issued an official order to suspend the opening of S.Y. 2025-2026 on June 16, 2025 due to the MPOX virus.

As of June 2, 2025, Iloilo’s City Health Office confirmed six mpox cases and two suspected cases awaiting lab confirmation. However, the Department of Health clarified on May 31, 2025, that no lethal strain of the virus has been detected in the country—making a nationwide class suspension unwarranted.

Under current policy, class suspensions are only valid when declared by the Department of Education or relevant local government units. Verified updates may also be confirmed through credible news sources such as GMA News, Inquirer, and Manila Bulletin.
