Alas Pilipinas Women ended their breakthrough run with a silver medal after yielding to host nation Vietnam in straight sets, 15-25, 17-25, 14-25, in the 2025 AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup final at the Dong Anh Gymnasium in Hanoi, June 14.
Despite the loss, this marks the Philippines’ best finish in an AVC tournament in 64 years, surpassing their bronze medal campaign in last year’s Women’s Challenge Cup held in Manila.
Vietnam, on the other hand, capped their third straight title after banking on the match-long brilliance of Tranh Thi Thanh Thuy and Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, who provided 20 and 17 points, respectively.
The nationals stayed level with the hosts early in the opening frame before the famed one-two punch of Thuy and Tuyen powered Vietnam to an 11-3 run en route to a dominant first set win.
Alas remained within striking distance in the second set, 13-14, behind the efforts of Alyssa Solomon and Fifi Sharma, who sparked life into the offense.
However, Tuyen quickly shut the door as the Vietnamese crew unleashed a 14-4 blitz to send the visitors into a 0-2 hole.
It was all Vietnam from that point on.
Fueled by their electrifying home crowd, Asia’s fourth-ranked women’s volleyball team proved to be too much for Alas, who dropped their third straight set.
Solomon anchored the nationals with eight markers, followed by Shaina Nitura’s six.
Up next for Alas is the VTV Cup, set to take place in Vinh Phuc from June 28 to July 5.
