At Assortedge, we believe that journalism is not just about information — it is about clarity, responsibility, and context. As a digital media platform that publishes a range of content — from deeply reported news to explainers, commentary, videos, and branded collaborations — we hold ourselves to the highest standards of transparency, editorial independence, and public accountability.
We are committed to upholding the public trust while also recognizing the realities of the modern media landscape, where journalism intersects with design, data, partnerships, and creative content. This policy outlines our standards for producing trustworthy, independent, and ethical work across all sections of Assortedge.
We put accuracy and clarity above all
Every piece of content we publish — whether a hard news article, a contextual explainer, or a branded feature — is held to the same editorial standards. We verify information through multiple credible sources, including public records, interviews, datasets, academic research, and firsthand observation. Our headlines are accurate reflections of the story’s substance and tone.
We do not speculate. If information is unclear or developing, we label it as such and explain what is known, what is not, and why.
Our editorial decisions are independent
Assortedge operates with full editorial autonomy. While we welcome institutional collaborations and creative partnerships, sponsors, donors, or funders do not influence our editorial choices. No external party dictates what we report, how we frame issues, or who we feature. Even in sponsored or co-produced content, editorial control remains with our editorial leadership.
When we publish branded, sponsored, or partner-supported stories, these are clearly labeled with bylines, tags, or disclaimers that distinguish them from independent journalism.
We label and manage all types of content
We recognize that media today is not one-size-fits-all. At Assortedge, our content can fall into any of the following types:
- News Reporting: Independently produced journalism based on verified facts and rigorous sourcing.
- Opinions and Columns: Commentary and analysis by staff or guest writers. Clearly labeled and separate from news.
- Explainers & Contextual Content: Educational or clarifying stories that break down complex issues.
- Branded Content / Sponsored Stories: Stories paid for by external partners. These are labeled accordingly.
- Partnered Content: Collaborations with NGOs, academic institutions, or other media. Editorial control must be retained.
- Service Journalism / Guides: Informational pieces meant to help readers navigate decisions (e.g., public service, consumer, health).
Each category is clearly marked, and distinctions are always explained to our readers.
Corrections are public and prompt
We correct factual errors as soon as they are identified. When a story is updated or corrected, we note the change clearly — either in an editor’s note or in-line clarification. Corrections are dated and explained to preserve the integrity of the archive.
Readers may report errors or suggest clarifications by emailing feedback@assortedge.org. We welcome this as part of our public accountability.
Anonymous sources are rare, but protected
We prefer to name all our sources. However, when individuals face credible risks (legal, professional, or physical), we may grant anonymity — with approval from senior editors and only after all information is independently verified. We explain why anonymity was granted and never allow it to mask baseless claims or attacks.
We never trade anonymity for access or favors.
We disclose — and avoid — conflicts of interest
Assortedge staff may not report on stories where they have personal, professional, or financial stakes. All potential conflicts must be disclosed to editors. If an unavoidable conflict arises, the journalist is reassigned or the relationship is disclosed within the story.
Editorial staff are also discouraged from endorsing political candidates, engaging in partisan campaigning, or contributing to causes that could compromise credibility.
We don’t tolerate plagiarism, disinformation, or manipulation
All content must be original or properly attributed. We link to our sources when available and cite all quotations, visuals, and data clearly. We do not digitally alter photos, video, or audio in deceptive ways. When using AI tools, visual effects, or illustrative content, we clearly disclose their usage and maintain full editorial control.
We are open to partnerships — but not compromise
Assortedge is open to collaborations with civic groups, research institutions, funders, and brands — provided editorial values are upheld. Any such collaboration must be publicly disclosed. Branded content is labeled; editorial voice is protected.
We listen to our audience
Our readers are part of the ecosystem we serve. We accept corrections, feedback, tips, and suggestions. We read every message sent to feedback@assortedge.org, and we strive to respond where appropriate.
Our comments sections and social media platforms are open to discussion — but not to hate, spam, harassment, or disinformation. We moderate with the goal of protecting constructive, factual dialogue.
We evolve, but remain grounded
The tools and platforms of storytelling will continue to evolve — as will the ways people engage with content. But our foundation will remain the same: clear, honest, fair, and ethical journalism. As Assortedge grows, our commitment is to lead with values that serve our audience and safeguard their trust.
