Aiming to clear the drug allegations against him, Former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog attends the quad comm hearing on September 19.

Mabilog denied that he was a ‘drug protector’ and that he did not “benefit in any way from any illegal drug personality in Iloilo or anywhere else.”

“When I became mayor and having made aware that there were existing drug groups in the city, I immediately initiated anti-illegal drug campaign and policies. I activated the barangay anti-drug abuse councils. In 2014, according to PDEA, Iloilo City was the first city to have 100% of our BADAC activated among others,” the former Mayor highlighted.

He also added that former President Rodrigo Duterte’s narco-list were baseless while also claiming that the previous administration weaponized law enforcement agencies to serve political vendettas.

“Using state institutions to carry out personal vendettas or silence perceived enemies undermines the foundation of justice and democracy in our country. No individual should be able to wield such unchecked authority regardless of their position or power,” he stated.

The ex-Iloilo mayor went into self-exile for seven years, after being subject to Duterte’s tirades and threats during the administration’s war on drugs. He recently returned to the country and surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation.

In an interview in ANC’s Headstart last September 10, the former mayor also revealed that he was granted political asylum in the United States following the illegal drug allegations.
